The Korean series that delves into the dark secrets of the influencer industry in the current world of social media has captivated viewers by using a crime genre narrative. The protagonist, Soa-ri, is revealed to have died three months ago but returns to livestream a video revealing her life story, from being an ordinary person to becoming a top influencer. However, she faces her own death due to her own fame. This opening scene immediately grabs the audience’s attention, and the burning question becomes: What happened to Soa-ri? How did she die? And is this real or not? This series employs a gripping storytelling technique that keeps viewers engaged throughout each episode until the 12th and final episode. It combines a flashback narrative from the past with a present-day story that society is currently buzzing about, centered around Soa-ri’s livestream video. This creates a continuous and intense storyline, as past and present events gradually intertwine, unraveling all the hidden secrets in a very thrilling manner.

The series effectively incorporates the intricate details and challenges of online social issues, starting with the revelation of the origins of all the online personas. It is evident that these personas did not come into existence naturally, but rather through various manipulative techniques and strategies. The series exposes the behind-the-scenes of these tactics, laying them bare for viewers to see and even potentially apply in the real world. The main character, Soa-ri, herself is someone who utilizes these deceptive methods, making her a morally ambiguous character. Despite her seemingly pristine image, she is not innocent and is ready to employ these manipulative strategies to benefit herself.

For example, there are people who pretend to be wealthy on social media, or groups that maliciously spread rumors to harm others for their own amusement, believing that the police cannot catch them. This series effectively incorporates these peculiar psychological disorders into the narrative, with the ultimate hidden character being the account “bbbfamous” who turns out to be the main antagonist, responsible for the murder of Soa-ri. It is guaranteed that there is no way to guess who this character truly is.

 

The series also includes the familiar formula of wealthy and powerful villains in Korean dramas, often depicted as chaebol families. In this case, it involves a prominent law firm that holds numerous secrets of the wealthy. They have manipulated and orchestrated events to their advantage. Similarly, the protagonist, Soa-ri, must confront and fight against these forces to bring them down. Through her Live videos, the scale of the story grows to a national level, surpassing the mere exposure of the behind-the-scenes of famous individuals. This amplifies the stakes as she strives to reveal the truth and dismantle these powerful entities.

Despite the intense and turbulent storyline, the series manages to incorporate small romantic scenes that are fitting. One such instance involves the CEO of a large company relentlessly pursuing the female lead, creating subtle moments of affection that capture her heart. Although this series is a creation of Netflix, which typically doesn’t focus heavily on romance, it still manages to deliver impressive and sweet romantic moments. The charming appearance of the female lead perfectly complements the character and satisfies the desires of K-drama enthusiasts.

One drawback of the story is that the female lead’s survival from crisis situations seems to rely heavily on luck. The plot often introduces coincidences that conveniently help the female lead escape from dangerous situations. However, this doesn’t necessarily make the story unenjoyable. On the contrary, it contributes to keeping the narrative fast-paced and engaging. And another thing is the portrayal of female villains, which tends to be overly aggressive.

In general, this is a Korean series that vividly reflects social issues. It presents an intense and thrilling storyline with intense social conflicts that one cannot predict. From the outside, you wouldn’t expect it to be this intense. You have to watch it yourself to truly understand. I highly recommend not to miss it!
