The new remake film is a live-action version, but the main storyline remains the same. Peter Pan takes Wendy to Neverland, where they encounter Captain Hook and engage in sword fights like in the original story. In the end, Peter Pan triumphs over his enemy, and the adventure ends with a sense of repetition. The journey is the same old adventure, which can become tedious and uninteresting.

What’s even worse is the attempt to adjust to the “woke” trend by changing Tinker Bell, a tiny white fairy, into a black one played by Yara Shahidi While this is a clear attempt to be “woke,” even removing this issue, the actress faces the problem of not being able to portray a bubbly and cheerful fairy. Even in scenes that require a happy smile, her appearance is melancholic, making it seem like she is struggling to fit into a role that does not suit her well.

 

Even Peter Pan himself, played by Alexander Molony, is portrayed by a child actor with a mixed American heritage look. While his appearance is distinctive and striking, he lacks the charm that makes him memorable.

The actress who helped make the movie look much better is Ever Anderson, who played Wendy. She helped make the movie more lively and added depth to her character, which acted as a glue to make Peter Pan and Tinker Bell understand each other. She also taught them how to grow up and not stay stuck in Neverland like Peter Pan.

The movie attempts to expand the backstory of Peter Pan, Captain Hook, and Wendy, by delving into their childhood connections. However, this additional content is lightly touched upon and does not significantly contribute to the freshness of the storyline.

Regarding the CG, it is decent for a streaming production but not exceptionally stunning to the point where it must be admired. Moreover, the movie has a problem with color grading, as the attempt to intensify the colors in Neverland appears overdone and deceiving to the eyes.

 

Overall, the movie is a kid-friendly fantasy production that attempts to make several changes to refresh the story. However, these alterations only affect the external appearance and the entire plot remains the same as the well-known classic. As a result, it may not impress those who are looking for a remake that truly stands out. Nevertheless, the movie may be suitable for young viewers who are still into the traditional Disney-style fairytales.
