Blood Coast   The French Netflix original series consists of 6 episodes that revolve around a ruthless police squad in a city forced to confront a former drug lord, who was once their longtime friend. The plot intensifies as an even more brutal new drug dealer enters the city, aiming to take control it.

The series, created by Kamel Guemra, is one of the writers of “”Lost Bullet ,” an original Netflix film known for its intense action. This series follows a similar pattern, escalating the level of brutality. It revolves around two ruthless factions – a group of ferocious police versus an equally merciless gang of criminals. The city of Marseille becomes a battleground as these two groups engage in a deadly conflict without regard for anyone, resulting in chaos and revealing corruption within the police department itself.

The narrative delves deep into the criminal underworld, portraying a story where every character’s actions are morally reprehensible and unlawful. The series meticulously explores the dark side of the drug trade, intertwining it with corruption within the police force. The level of detail in depicting the criminality mirrors the style of the “Narcos” series, creating a French version with a similar intensity.

One thing that stands out in this story is the excessive use of profanity by every character to the point where it becomes normal. Regardless of gender, men, villains, children, bosses, siblings – everyone constantly uses vulgar language without feeling the need to restrain themselves. The world created in this story turns a seaside tourist town into something resembling Colombia or Mexico, making the narrative seem like a deteriorating and crisis-ridden environment. This world-building is designed to add credibility to the idea that all characters in this story are immersed in a cycle of depravity.

The police characters, who are the protagonists in this story, engage in wrongdoing against criminals as if it’s a routine. Scenes of brutality to extract information from criminals are common, involving illegal actions that clearly violate the law. Despite some internal conflicts, they believe that such actions are necessary for the peace and order of the city. Despite some underlying resentment, they are not seeking direct revenge against drug dealers. Instead, they willingly transform themselves into demons to combat the ruthless criminals that the police alone cannot handle.

Their actions are met with fear and hatred from the very police force they belong to. The series introduces a subplot where internal investigators are brought in to find evidence against them. This particular detective employs more destructive methods than straightforward investigation, serving as a key element in the story. Ultimately, the question arises as to who will emerge victorious in this game.

The antagonist in this story is an Islamist who, within his community and family, is a respected individual. He appears to be a good person within his group of peers but engages in heinous and ruthless acts against the external society, adding another layer of complexity to the narrative. He is not the typical outright villain of the story, but rather a mysterious criminal gang leader who perpetrates violence and terror against the community. This creates a deep and intricate dimension to the plot, diverging from the conventional narrative of a mysterious gang that hunts down and kills its rivals to control the city.

This twist adds fuel to the fire, turning the city into a chaotic battleground. Both the police and the main gang of the story must strive to investigate, pursue, and eliminate this mysterious antagonist. The series is extremely brutal, featuring highly intense scenes of villainous atrocities, with straightforward and frequent instances of killing throughout the storyline. Some scenes are so unexpectedly violent that it’s hard to anticipate the level of brutality, providing a great deal of shock. Even children are not spared, as there are scenes depicting violence and abuse towards them. The portrayal is reminiscent of the shocking scenes in the series Narcos, with no restraint shown towards the characters. This creates an atmosphere of raw, terrifying brutality that is comparable to none.

The series consists of 6 episodes, and it resolves all the issues effectively. However, in the final episode, there is an option to leave the story open for continuation or to conclude it entirely.

In summary, this is a series that depicts a brutal showdown between bad cop and ruthless criminals. The narrative is filled with intense violence and extremely coarse language. However, it seamlessly fits into the world of drug trafficking, corruption, and complexity, all set against the backdrop of the corrupt city of Marseille.
